With a population of around 70, the village of Dalavich, thirty miles from Oban, west Scotland, can certainly be described as 'off the main road'.  You get an immediate sense of its remote beauty as you leave the Oban road at Taynuilt, and begin the 14-mile single-track drive to Dalavich. This winding road is as if on loan from nature: you are sure to encounter deer and birds of prey and the views of mountain and loch are truly breathtaking. The village itself lies on the banks of beautiful Loch Awe – the perfect location for a peaceful retreat. 

Yet there’s plenty to do to help you recharge your batteries. You’ll find numerous lochside and forest walks, including the Dalavich Oakwood Trail, and a number of attractive cycle routes. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and you might even spot an otter, a wildcat or an eagle en route. And if you’re more interested on the wildlife on the end of your fishing line, some of the largest brown trout in Europe are waiting to be caught in Loch Awe and fishing permits are available locally.
